SHIKARPUR
Police have arrested two men who issued orders for killing of two girls over ‘karo kari’ charges at a jirga (court of elders) in Shikarpur.
The Shikarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) said accused Sanaullah Mehr and Abdullah Mehr, key accused, have been arrested. He said police were conducting raids for the arrest of the jirga head, Ghaus Bukhsh Mehr and other accused.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani had taken suo motu notice of killing of two women for honour in Shikarpur.
Two girls were killed weeks ago for marrying men of their choice. The jirga in its judgement ordered the men to pay fine worth Rs 2.4 million each.
The jirga was presided over by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) lawmaker Ghaus Bukhsh Mehr.
Taking notice of the same, Larkana DIG Khalid Rind has formed an investigation team, headed by ASP Kamran Nawaz.
The jirga declared the girls from Mehr tribe kari and men from Jagirani tribe karo for marrying to their own will.
