At least 12 Kashmiri students were injured after being attacked by local students in a university in Rajasthan, India.
Some local students started hurling abuses at Kashmiri students at Meewar University ahead of a cricket match between Pakistan and India in the ongoing T20 World Cup being played in Bangladesh, KMS reported.
“Situation turned hostile after the local students, who were about 30-40 in numbers thrashed four Kashmiri students,” a B-Tech student from Kashmir, who insisted not to be named, told reporters in Srinagar over phone from the university.
He said that in the assault, one student fell unconscious, who was removed by his colleagues to his hostel room.
In the meantime, the local students, including the residents of the area, started hurling stones at Kashmiri students, he said, adding that all this happened in the presence of police and varsity administration.
About 650 Kashmir students, who are pursuing different courses at the varsity, have been threatened, reports said.
The Kashmiri students said that they were being harassed since March 2, when Pakistan defeated India in the Asia Cup match.
“Since then, they are targeting us and they want that we should leave the varsity,” they added.
