Senate body recommends opening Youtube

Senate Standing Committee for Information Technology and Telecommunication, keeping in view the report of its sub-committee, recommended to open Youtube in the country. The meeting, chaired by Senator Muhammad Idrees Saafi, was held at the Parliament House. It was also attended by Senators Abdul Hasseb Khan, Muhammad Zahid Khan, Hari Raam, Sheerala Malik and State Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rehman, Secretary Information Technology, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Privatization Commission Director General and USF Chief Executive Officer.

The committee also sought report on details of agreements between Ministry of Law and Privatization Commission to privatise Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

State Minister Information Technology Anusha Rehman said that IT had the role of back bone in the development of any country and latest technology would be provided for development of Pakistan.

The ministry was taking all out efforts for prosperity of the country and wanted to share all the steps with the Parliament and general public, she added.

She said that the government had made the ten years old dead projects of Technology Parks practicable which were funded by World Bank, adding that it would help promote technology in the country.

She said that initially the project of Technology Parks would be started from federal capital and later would be introduced in Lahore and Karachi.

USF Ceo informed the committee that the government was taking various steps to provide services of information technology, adding that 1,043 educational broadband centers and 297 community broadband centers had been established in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

He said that tele-centers would be established at all the four provinces and FATA. Moreover, the committee was informed that 500 IT centers would be established across the country.
