RTMA to replace streetlights with LEDs

Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) will replace all streetlights with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to help save energy, Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Sardar Tashfeen said Thursday.

He said the steps were being taken after the Punjab government directed all TMAs of the province to switch over to modern technology of lightening the streets to save energy.

“Accordingly, a tender has been floated to get expressions of interests from companies operating in the field,” he said adding that RTMA has allocated Rs 110 million for replacing streetlights in the city area.

Rejecting the impression of non-functioning of all streetlights, he said every third streetlight was lit while two remained off in each row and “the impression that all streetlights are out of order is wrong.”

Meanwhile the residents of union councils (UCs) 14,15,16,19,24,33,34,35 and 37 talking to APP complained that out of order streetlights were creating problems for them, leading to increase in street crimes.
