Numlians mark Nowruz with colour-filled festivities

Students of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Friday marked Nowruz Festival celebrations with number of colourful activities.

The event featured bright blushing faces, shimmering dresses, fascinating ornamentation, traditional attires, mouth watering `Haft Sin’ and choreographed dances by local and foreign students on Nowruz Festival celebrations.

These Nowruz Festival celebrations were arranged by Persian Language Department of NUML, in collaboration with Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ambassador of Islamic Republic Afghanistan Janan Mosazai along with Iranian Cultural Counsellor Dr Taghi Sadghi, and NUML Rector Maj Gen (r) Masood Hasan inaugurated the Nowruz Day celebrations by cutting of ribbon of thematic stalls representing the mosaic of Iranian, Afghan, Central Asians and Pakistani cultures.

Director General (DG) Brig Azam Jamal, deans, director, head of different department and big number of students of the university were also present on the occasion.

The beautiful embroidered dresses, delicious traditional cookies, dry fruits, foods, sweets, desserts and rhythmic music from Iran, and Afghanistan were a treat among treats for the students and faculty members of NUML.

Afghani students, clad in heavy traditional turbans and waistcoats embedded with glass and embroidered work, with their concentric circular dances before the guests, charged the atmosphere and made everybody to thump its feet enthusiastically.

The Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai and Iranian Cultural Counsellor Dr Taghi Sadghi also visited the library of Iranology Centre where classical literature of Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan including centuries old manuscript of the holy Quran, Shahnama Firdousi, Dewan-e-Hafiz, Gulstan-e-Saadi, Masnavi Maulvi and Kuliat-e-Jami were put on display and these rare collection were keenly witnessed and appreciated by the visitors.

Speaking at the occasion, Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai said that firstly he would like to wish Happy Nowrooz day to all. He said that since the day has been recognized by the UN General Assembly as a part of humanity’s heritage, it was really pleasant to see that Nowruz Day was being celebrated at NUML and Pakistan to save and promote the shared ancient values of tolerance, harmony and peace.

Earlier to this, Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai and Iranian Cultural Counsellor Dr Taghi Sadghi met Rector Maj Gen (r) Masood Hasan and DG brig Azam Jamal and had discussion on issues of mutual interest.
