The Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar on Tuesday said that the power granted to the Rangers was a mere ‘piece of paper’, reported a private news channel.
Akhtar was addressing the inaugural session of Command and Control Centre in F.B Area.
He said that the power of the paramilitary force, granted after a suo moto notice of the Supreme Court on August 24, 2011 does not hold any significance due to lack of proper proceedings, the criminals held in raids by the force are handed over to the police who later let them go.
He further said that Lyari was not the only area rife with criminal elements, adding that Karachi has various areas where the law and order situation resembled that in Lyari.
