After comprehensively beating United Arab Emirates in the first match, Netherlands take on Zimbabwe in their second match at Sylhet Stadiumon Wednesday (March 19). This match will start at 14.30 hours (PST).
It will be the first match between the two teams in Twenty-20 World Cup as well as in Twenty-20 Internationals.
Zimbabwe have won one and lost six in seven matches played in Twenty-20 World Cup. After stunning then one day international cricket’s World Champions Australia in their first match of the inaugural Twenty-20 World Cup in 2007, Zimbabwe have fizzled out.
They have lost all six other matches played at Twenty-20 World Cup.
Netherlands who are participating in the Twenty-20 World Cup for the second time, have won two and lost one in three matches played in this competition.
Netherlands have already showed the fight of a wounded group. After losing their one day international status earlier this year and with the backroom drama, they turned in a clinical performance against the United Arab Emirates to demonstrate the threat they could pose at this event. Victory over Zimbabwe will set up a showdown with Ireland, if they beat the United Arab Emirates . Netherlands will want nothing less than to take it down to the final match of the group and to give themselves every chance of playing in the main draw.
The second match of the day will be played between Ireland and United Arab Emirates. This match will start at 18.30 hours (PST).
Ireland defeated Zimbabwe by three wickets in their first match while United Arab Emirates lost to Netherlands by six wickets in their first match.
Ireland have won two, lost six and abandoned two in 10 matches played in the Twenty-20 World Cup while United Arab Emirates have lost their only match in this competition.
Ireland defeated United Arab Emirates by 62 runs when two teams met in the semi final of Twenty-20 World Cup qualifier at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on November 29,2013. Batting first after winning the toss, Ireland made 147 for eight in 20 overs. United Arab Emirates were bowled out for 85 in 17.4 overs to loss the match.
The international cricketing world got a first look at the Sylhet surface on Monday (March 17) and it proved a typically Bangladeshi one. It was slow and took turn but there was also a little on offer for the seamers, especially as the afternoon wore on.
