AFGHANISTAN’S MAIDEN VICTORY IN TWENTY-20 WORLD CUP:

Afghanistan recorded their maiden victory in Twenty-20 World Cup by beating Hong Kong by seven wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong on Tuesday (March 18).

Afghanistan’s maiden victory in Twenty-20 World Cup came in sixth match. It was Afghanistan’s 12th victory in 24 Twenty-20 International matches.

** Mohammed Shahzad recorded the highest individual score for Afghanistan in Twenty-20 World Cup by making 67 off 53 balls with six fours and three sixes. It was Aghanistan’s second highest individual score in Twenty-20 International cricket. Mohammed Shahazad’s 77 off 57 balls with seven fours and two sixes against Ireland at Dubai on March 24,2012 is the highest ever individual score for Afghanistan. Noor Ali Zadran who made 50 off 48 balls with four fours against India at Gros Islet on May 1,2010 held the previous record for Afghanistan in Twenty-20 World Cup.

**Irfan Ahmed became the 10th batsman on 11occasion to be dismissed on the first ball of the match. He was bowled by left arm fast medium bowler Shapoor Zadra. Irfan Ahmed played a limp drive and the ball flicked the off stump en route to the keeper. Ireland’s William Porterfield is the only batsman to be dismissed on the first ball of the match twice, against Australia at Colombo on September 19,2012 and against West Indies at the same ground five days later. It was second time in two matches, Irfan Ahmed was out first ball of the innings. Nepal’s Paras Khadka also dismissed him on the first ball of the innings in the previous match at the same ground two days back.

** At 39 years and 349 days, Hong Kong’s Munir Dar became the third oldest debutant in Twenty-20 cricket. Khurram Khan who was 42 years and 269 days old when made his debut for United Arab Emirates against Netherlands at Sylhet on March 17,2014 holds the record of the oldest debutant in Twenty-20 cricket while Hong Kong’s Najeeb Amar is the second oldest on debut. He was 42 years and 172 days old when played his first Twenty-20 match against Nepal at Dhaka on March 16,2014.
