Some external elements of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) accompanied by some expelled IJT activists and University of the Punjab (PU) students, taking law into their hands, misbehaved with faculty members of College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and snatched mobile phones and wallets of male and female students on the occasion of annual sports gala, said the Punjab University spokesman on Tuesday.
The IJT activists also damaged a car of CEES faculty member. According to the PU spokesman, the annual sports gala of CEES was being held at the college’s lawns when a threatening slip was sent by Jamiat to the college principle to stop the sports activities but the college administration did not accept the IJT’s pressure.
Later, some 10 to 15 IJT activists trespassed into the college ground and misbehaved with the senior faculty members by holding their collars and pushing them and snatched mobile phones from male students and wallets from female students.
The IJT activists made 6 teachers, 6 females and 15 male student hostage. The university administration brought the matter to the notice of Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan who took serious notice of the IJT hooliganism and passed instructions to the police officials. The spokesman said the police reached the spot soon and the IJT activists dispersed.
In another incident, the IJT activists misbehaved with a teacher of geography department. The spokesman said that a few remaining activists of the IJT wanted to harm the peaceful academic atmosphere of the country and were involved in crimes. He said that the recent incidents of misbehaving with teachers and snatching valuables of students had again exposed the IJT’s true and hypocritical face. The spokesman said that the university administration had provided a peaceful atmosphere on campus and any attempt to damage the academic environment would be dealt in accordance with law. The spokesman said that the PU administration would take strict disciplinary action against the IJT students.
