Tackling harassment

The participants on Monday stressed the need for creating a conducive environment for female journalists at work place, job security and gender discrimination.

A meeting of women’s committee constituted by the Karachi Union of Journalists held under KUJ President G M Jamali that discussed the problems being faced by women journalists in the media industry.

The participants of the meeting discussed and agreed that the important issues including harassment the female journalists face in the work area and in the field should be tackled.

Senior Joint Secretary Sana Mirza suggested that members of the women’s committee should connect the KUJ members in their organization. Mirza also suggested that the committee should work in liaison with the Sindh Government, human rights organizations and other institutes to resolve problems faced by the female members.

Apart from KUJ President G.M Jamali and General Secretary Wajid Raza Isfahani, the other members who participated in the first meeting of KUJ’s Women Committee included KUJ Senior Joint Secretary Sana Mirza; members of governing body Lubna Jerar and Seema Shafi; KUJ members Yasmeen Taha (Freelance); Sheher Bano (The News); Shaheen Ateeq (ARY); Wajiha Khan (Abb Takk); Kiran Khan (Dunya TV) Shagufta Yasmeen (Metro One) and Dania Naz (FM 107).
