ICCI meets IESCO, for proactive measures to meet the rising energy demand of industry
Acting Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) President Khalid Chaudhry and Vice President Mirza Muhammad Ali called on Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) Chief Executive Officer Malik Muhammad Yousaf Awan in his office and apprised him of the problems being faced by the trade and industry on account of power shortage.
Chaudhry said that industry has suffered huge losses due to energy crisis. However, he lauded the initiatives of the current government for overcoming the energy shortage and hoped that such initiatives would provide relief to business & industry as well as to the general public.
He said indicators of the economy are showing positive trends due to which energy demand for industry is expected to go further up in near future and government should take proactive measures to cope with anticipated rising energy demand of industry.
He said the recent power tariff hike by Rs 2.24 per unit by the Nepra will create more problems for people as it will further enhance cost of production and increase inflation. However, he lauded the efforts of IESCO for reducing load shedding and hoped that with the positive approach of IESCO management, load shedding would be further reduced. He said IESCO should take measures to address the issues of Kahuta Industrial Triangle including forced load shedding.
Speaking at the occasion, IESCO chief said that line losses of IESCO are the lowest in the whole country and recovery ratio is more than 90 percent, which shows its good performance. He said due to less power theft in IESCO, load shedding has been reduced and assured that all efforts would be made to further bring down the load shedding during the summer season. He said his doors are always open to facilitate the consumers.
