LAHORE-

The sit-in by nurses entered its fifth day despite Friday’s baton charge and arrests made by the police, a private news channel reported.

The nurses, working for years on ad-hoc basis demand permanent appointments and adoption of a services structure by the government.

On Friday, the protest moved from Cooper Road to The Mall Road, outside the Punjab Assembly.

The protest caused a traffic blockade on the adjacent roads, which led to a baton charge by the police to disperse the nurses. A number of the demonstrators were also arrested while many were injured.

The event led to a boycott of duties by the nurses of other hospitals who then joined in at the sit-in.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident and constituted a cabinet committee for resolving the issue.
The committee is headed by the Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah.

On Friday night, Health Advisor to CM, Khawaja Salman Rafique accompanied by Lahore Division Commissioner, Rashid Mahmood Langrial and CCP, Shafique Gujar arrived at the sit-in to convince the protestors but the nurses refused to talk and demanded that the CM should come and hold a dialogue.
