Commissioner reviews arrangements to respond drought emergency

Commissioner Hyderabad Jamal Mustafa Syed has said that effective measures are being adopted in order to meet the challenges of expected famine in different districts of Hyderabad Division.

An alert has been issued to Deputy Commissioners and officers of concerned departments while two committees have also been formed at divisional level to ensure immedite response to the situation in case of famine in the division.

The Commissioner informed this while presiding over a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners and district heads of the departments concerned here at his office the other day to review the arrangements in case the famine hit any district of the division. He fear possibility of drought like situation in coastal, desert and mountain belts of Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Dadu and Benazirabad districts. The Deputy Commissioners of these districts should ensure the availability of safe drinking water, food, vaccination and availability of medical and veterinary staff in case they receive reports about shortage of water, fodder and diseases in livestock, he directed.

The Commissioner formed the Drought Monitoring and Drought Task Committees under supervision of Additional Commissioner-II Umer Farooq Bulu and asked the concerned Deputy Commissioners and districts heads of the relevant departments to submit situation reports on daily basis.

He asked the heads of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authroity, Irrigation and Food Departments, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and the concerned institutions to have close contacts for meeting out the challenges of expected drought.

He also directed the reactivation of all installed Reverse Osmosis Plants in the districts of Hyderabad Division.
