MUZAFFARGARH-
An 18-year-old gang-rape victim on Friday succumbed to her burn injuries after an attempted self-immolation in Bet Mir Hazar area, about 40km from Muzaffargarh ,in protest of the release of the rapists on March 13, private news channels reported.
On January 5, the victim had lodged an FIR, stating that she was going to her college when the accused Nadir Khan and his four accomplices gang-raped her in a deserted area.
On Thursday (March 13), a local court granted bail to the main accused.
The girl went to the Bet Mir Hazar police station and protested to the investigation officer Zulfiqar Ahmad for favouring the accused in his report.
She then set herself on fire outside the police station.
The locals rushed her to the Jatoi Civil Hospital.
She was later shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday early morning.
Following the incident, SHO Rai Shahid and ASI Zulfikar were suspended by thr District Police Officer Usman Akram Gondal.
The Punjab chief minister took notice of the incident and sought a report.
According to media reports, the victim had sought support from the women rights activist Mukhtar Mai during the case investigation.
Mai had requested the police investigators to do justice to the victim.
