10 killed, above 35 injured as powerful blast hits Quetta

QUETTA-

At least 10 people were killed and more than 30 injured Friday when a bomb exploded near Quetta’s Science College Chowk area, officials said.

Rescue officials confirmed 10 people had been killed from the powerful explosion. There was so far no confirmation of the death toll from government sources.

Hospital administration officials said at least 25 had been shifted to the CivilHospital and were being treated for injuries.

Frontier Corps officials said the bomb was planted on a bicycle and exploded when the bus drove by.

Two vehicles carrying Pakistan troops had just passed by the site when the bomb exploded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Baluchistan is dealing with separatists who are battling the state and sectarian groups who often attack minority Shiites. It is also believed to be home to many Afghan Taliban members.

Media reports suggest that some of the injured were in critical condition, and that further casualties were feared.

According to Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) 5kg explosive material was used in the blast.

Heavy contingents of Police and Levis forces have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidences of the crime.
