Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar to discuss new Karachi law and order strategy with Sindh officials today
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be visiting Karachi today (Friday)on a one-day visit to review the law and order situation of the city which is yet to see a day of peace ever since a targeted operation was launched by Rangers and the Karachi police department against organised crime syndicates operating under political patronage.
Prime Minister Sharif will be accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. He will chair a high-level law and order meeting, which will be attended by the chiefs of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and intelligence officials.
Sources said that Nawaz will be briefed about the ongoing targeted operation in the metropolis and the recent incidents of violence in Lyari that had claimed more than 17 lives on Wednesday.
Sources said that a new strategy regarding the Karachi operation will also be discussed at the meeting.
GOVT COMMITTED TO CONSULTATIONS:
Separately, Prime Minister Sharif said that the government was fully committed to resolving the challenges facing the country through consultations.
Talking to a 10-member delegation of the Pakistan Ulema Council led by its chairman Allama Tahir Ashrafi on Thursday, Nawaz said, “We believe in resolving issues through consultations as consultative process proves helpful in handling complex situations.”
He stressed that the clerics should play their role in promoting Pakistan’s positive image in the global community and pointed out that extremism could be eradicated from the society by following the true spirit of Islam.
Nawaz assured the government’s support to clerics in promoting peace and harmony in the country.
Ashrafi lauded the premier’s efforts to help Pakistan overcome various challenges. He assured Nawaz of full support and added that the premier’s desire for peace and his political acumen reflected his sincerity for the country.
The PUC chairman also expressed support for the government’s foreign policy and its efforts to eradicate polio from the country.
