Lack of proper planning to cause Thar-like famine in entire country, says Ahsan Iqbal
A drought-like situation will strike all the areas of the country if effective planning and pre-emptive measures are not taken to tackle water crisis, said federal minister Ahsan Iqbal while addressing a ceremony in the capital on Wednesday.
Iqbal said the previous governments had failed to build dams in the country and today India was building dams while occupying Pakistan’s rivers.
“The incumbent government is trying to solve water issue with India so as to protect the region from further water-related issues,” he said.
The minister said that if attention was not paid to the water issue, the country will face a great danger of food shortage and a famine-like situation would occur in the entire country.
The federal minister said that an action plan has been prepared and a national conference will be called on March 20 to consider the matter further which would be participated by different experts of the country.
