A sub-committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has opposed the privatization of state owned fertilizer entity by the government and directed that this entity should not be privatised.
The body met under its Chairman Sardar Ashiq Gopang on Wednesday in the Parliament House to review audit objections in respect of accounts of ministry of industries and production for the year 2007-8.
Additional Secretary Khizar Hayat while giving briefing to the committee said corruption in respect of fertilizer is enormous in the state owned institutions. Privatisation of the institution is only solution to eliminate corruption.
Gopang said that the state-run fertiliser entity should not be privatized.
It was told in the meeting that goods worth Rs 2.5 billion were purchased for utility stores against rules and regulations in 2007 while the employees of utility stores are facing charges of theft amounting to Rs 26 million.
Committee directed that responsibility be fixed in this theft case, report be presented and recovery of stolen money be made from the employees.
