NCSW re-launches ‘Feminism Aur Hum’

National Commission for Status of Women (NCSW) re-launched a book entitled ‘Feminism Aur Hum,’ edited by Dr Fatima Hassan, a women activist.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fatima Hassan, a renowned famous feminist poet and also serving as Prof Public Relations at KarachiUniversity discuss the journey of feminism in Pakistan’s history. She shared memories of her life as and highlighted the need for in-depth work in research and literature for better understanding of the word feminism among general public.

The book is republished by the Women Action Forum (WAF). Dr Fatima Hassan who has three poetic collections, one essay collection and one story collection on her credit, said literature can play a major role in changing the mind sets.

Sharing her remarks on the occasion, NCSW Chairperson Khawar Mumtaz hailed the contributions of the Dr Fatima in the literature of feminism. She said few writers write for a cause and Dr Fatima is one of them. She said Dr Fatima did her research thesis on a feminist activist and applauded here endeavour saying, “Quite few people think so deeply and selected a topic like this.”

The chairperson said efforts of Dr Fatima would always be remembered in women rights movement, adding, she is a great source of inspiration for younger generation who raised voice for women when no one was ready to talk on the issue.

Eminent poetess and women rights activist Kishwar Naheed apprised that Dr Fatima wrote her first poem in 1975 and since then she, had always been a guiding personality for all feminist writers.

“She truly understands and portrays the feelings of women,” said Kishwar Naheed.

Literary figures of twin cities, civil society representatives and media persons were present on the occasion.
