International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has contributed over the last 50 years to fostering scientific research in developing countries throughout the world.
“ICTP is increasingly looking outward, planning to expand its role further in the opening of affiliated centres in different parts of the world,” speakers said while addressing the sixth International Scientific Spring (ISS) festival which commenced on Monday at National Centre for Physics (NCP).
The five-day event is being organised in collaboration with Abdus Salam Trieste, Italy. Prof J Niemela of ICTP and Dr Hamid Saleem are the directors of the activity.
Dr Joseph Niemela from ICTP while representing the ICTP said, “ICTP is proud to be associated with ISS-2014 as ICTP and NCP has very close relations. ICTP is playing its active role in promotion of science throughout the world for the last five decades and at this point we should not forget the contributions of Dr Abdus Salam in establishment of ICTP, Trieste, Italy.”
While addressing, NCP Collaborations & Academic Activities Department Director Dr Riffat Mehmood Qureshi said that ISS aims at promoting strong interaction between local and foreign scientists and researchers and it has been proved very beneficial and fruitful.
The ISS event provides a unique platform and excellent opportunity to discuss results of their theoretical and experimental research in the presence of internationally renowned scientists and experts.
NCP Director General Dr Hamid Saleem, while giving a presentation to the participants about NCP, said that NCP was thankful to ICTP and its director Prof Fernando Quevedo for its all out support in organising this important scientific activity in Pakistan.
