Three grenade attacks killed at least 12 people on Tuesday in Lyari
neighbourhood of the metropolis.
The attacks took place between two rival groups in Jhat Par Market of the area.
12 people, including four women and two children lost their lives while 9 others including two policemen were wounded .
The attacks followed killing of Shiraz Zikri, the brother of a gang leader Ghaffar Zikri during a joint operation conducted by police and Rangers’ personnel in Lyari earlier today.
“In reaction, gangsters came to a market on Wednesday morning in Lyari and opened indiscriminate fire, killing women and children along with the men,” senior police officer Abdul Khalique Shaikh told a foreign news agency.
The wounded and dead were taken to the nearby Civil Hospital by private charity services active in city.
“Police and paramilitary have entered Lyari and two of the gangsters have been killed in the shootout by the security forces,” Shaikh said. “We are conducting search and arrest operation in the area.”
