Govt to update court about life threats to Musharraf

ISLAMABAD

The special court has summoned the head of the government department that issued the security alert against the former president for an in-chamber briefing at 1pm on Thursday.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, was hearing the case relating to treason charges against the former president.
During Wednesday’s hearing of the treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf, Justice Arab said the court wanted to be apprised of the nature and seriousness of life threat to Musharraf and subsequently summoned the head of the government department for an in-chamber briefing at 1 pm.
The hearing of the case was adjourned until Thursday (today).
Earlier, security personnel prevented Musharraf’s lawyer Rana Ijaz from entering the court. Security sources said Ijaz was barred on a written order of Registrar Abdul Ghani Soomro for attacking Justice Arab on Tuesday.
Justice Arab had asked security personnel to remove Ijaz from the courtroom after he said he had received “life threats” from a Lyari gang and presumed that Justice Arab was behind it.
