Musharraf treason case: No show due to security threats

ISLAMABAD-

The special court resumed hearing of treason trial against the former president Pervez Musharraf, private news channels reported on Tuesday.

The court had ordered the former dictator to appear in the hearing today for his indictment in the case.

The counsel of former president stated in the special court that his client would appear after the court ensures his security.

During the today’s proceedings, Ahmed Raza Kasuri presented the security alert, issued by the interior ministry, before the court and said Musharraf will appear only after the court ensures his client’s security.

Kasuri further informed the court that in the security alert, interior ministry has feared assassination attempt on Musharraf similar to attack on Salman Taseer.

Terrorists have penetrated into the security squad of his client, therefore, screening of security personnel was essential, he added.

The three-member bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, ruled that the court will not order Musharraf to appear in today’s hearing due to the security threat.

The former president was summoned on Friday for indictment of charges.

Earlier today, security arrangements on the route to the special court for the former president included deployment of 2200 personnel.

Moreover, federal police squad arrived at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) to escort Musharraf to the court.
