PM constitutes committee to set up treaty implementation cells
Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has constituted a committee to establish treaty implementation cells in provinces for implementation of human rights conventions ratified by government of Pakistan.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister Zaheer Ahmed would head the committee while Commerce Division secretary, Law and Justice secretary and provincial secretaries would be its members. Commerce Division joint secretary would work as secretary of the committee.
The objectives of the committee are to oversee formulation of an effective mechanism in consultation with all provincial governments and relevant federal ministries to enable provincial governments as well as federal agencies concerned for effective implementation of the ratified conventions.
It would also develop identical protocols for implementation which can work as effective tools for federal and provincial governments to regularly document the progress made.
The committee would help and guide provincial governments for formulation of templates which can provide for reporting in prescribed and tabulated formats and generation of reports on compliance, in line with international best practices.
The committee would submit its recommendations for consideration to the prime minister in four weeks time.
