Former president Pervez Musharraf is not likely to appear in the special court on Tuesday in high treason case against him, a private TV channel reported on Monday.
Sources said Musharraf would not appear in the court due to security threats in the aftermath of attack on district courts Islamabad.
Musharraf’s lawyers will also file an application in the court on security threats. They will meet Musharraf in AFIC to exchange views on the matters regarding his appearance in the court.
AFIC sources said health condition of the former president was satisfactory and he was taking meals as usual. He also works out daily and talks to his friends and relatives over the phone. The former president, however, has abandoned cigar smoking.
Separately, the Interior Ministry said banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al Qaeda may try to assassinate the former president.
According to media reports, in a letter sent to the defence secretary, PM and president, the ministry said that the former army chief was facing life threats. The ministry said that Musharraf may be targeted by his own men the way slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer was gunned down by his security guard.
The letter read that an assassination plot was also made to attack Musharraf’s vehicle on his way to court from hospital.
Earlier, Musharraf’s lawyer also presented a threatening letter in the special court, claiming that it was sent by the TTP. The letter asked the counsel to separate themselves from the case or else they will be killed.
