The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday agreed to partake in the dialogue being held between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and has named Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lawmaker Gulzar Khan as its representative in the government committee.

The government had virtually dissolved the committee representing the government formed last month in the peace talks, when its members recommended formation of a fully-empowered team comprising the interior minister, officials of the army and the ISI and the governor and chief minister of the KPK for direct talks with the TTP.

The PTI chief Imran Khan has been a staunch supporter of dialogue with the banned TTP and has consistently said that a military operation against the Taliban is not a solution to the problem.

The PML-N had reportedly been approaching the PTI to agree to the inclusion of KPK Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the government committee for holding direct talks with the TTP leadership.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has been in constant touch with Imran Khan and has met him several times in recent days at Parliament House and his Islamabad residence.

There were reports on Sunday that Chaudhry Nisar would also hold a meeting with the PTI chief soon.
