The Hyderbabad English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) authorities have denied Booker Prize winner, noted Indian writer and human rights activist, Arundhati Roy, the permission to address students in the campus.

Roy was invited by the student organisations to speak on the topic ‘Fractures of Indian Ideology: Re-imaging Democracy and Redrawing Resistance’ on the first death anniversary of Kashmiri student Muddasir Kamran, KMS reported.

Kamran, who belonged to valley’s Pulwama district, died in mysterious circumstances at the campus last year.

The EFLU student organisations DAMSA, SIO, TSA, MSF and PDSU, in memory of Kamran, had organised a show and invited Roy.

“On March 4, the five student organisations submitted a request to the university to allot a room of the new academic block for the talk,” said Mohan Dharavath, DAMSA student union president, adding that the university had initially granted permission on Friday, March 7, however, at the last moment, the authorities denied permission claiming that the show might spark tensions.
