As part of its continuous drive against gas theft, the SSGC’s surveillance and monitoring department along with the FIA team conducted a major raid at a fat melting factory in Cattle Colony, Landhi, last Thursday.

The factory owner was involved in direct use of gas causing SSGC losses of millions of rupees and substantial gas volumes. The teams discovered that the owner was involved in gas theft by installing fake meters for running its operations.

It was estimated by the SSGC officials that the customer was engaged in gas theft worth Rs 20 to Rs 30 million a year. The SSGC and FIA teams were assisted in this operation by the company’s customer relations, distribution, services and maintenance (DSM) and security services departments.

Acting promptly, the customer relations team removed the fake meter while the DSM dismantled the illegal connections in the presence of Security, S&M and FIA personnel.

Two individuals were arrested by the FIA while the raid was still on to apprehend the factory owner. It must be mentioned that the factory owner had a past gas theft record, having had the property’s gas connection disconnected previously too for his involvement in this crime.

For that theft case, a claim of Rs 553,801 was lodged by SSGC against the factory owner which has yet to be acknowledged by the customer.
