ISLAMABAD
Power tariff is likely to go up by Rs 2.19 per unit and this increase will be made under monthly fuel adjustment surcharge head.
Sources said the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPP) has filed application with NEPRA, saying that power production cost was registered Rs 72.92 billion in January and it had to lose 35 paisa per unit on account of power theft and line losses this month.
Electricity costing Rs 59 billion was generated through thermal resources which led to scale up power production cost from Rs 9.58 per unit to Rs 11.77 per unit.
NEPRA will hear the application seeking increase in electricity tariff on March 13. If the proposed raise gets a green light from NEPRA then loss of revenue caused through power fleecing and line losses will be passed on to the consumers.
11.77 per unit is a big amount, 9 is ok, but 11.77 is too much!
