Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah said on Saturday that political stability was crucial for economic growth and bringing people out of poverty as predictable environment attracts investment that results in poverty reduction, job creation, increased state revenues, and funds for welfare and educational projects.
He said the political, social and economic system of the country was in grave danger which necessitates unity among all the stakeholders. The senator said this while talking to businessmen at FPCCI capital office where he came to congratulate FPCCI Vice President Munawar Mughal on assuming charge. FPCCI Chairman Coordination Faisal Saleem Rehman and a large number of prominent businessmen were also present on the occasion.
Zafar Ali Shah said that states facing internal violence do not normally make it on to the list of high-performers, therefore, the government is trying best to ensure peace.
But, he said, cooperation of masses as well as the business community was critically important in the regard so that they did not remain economically moribund.
He added that economic growth leads to a rise in the visibility and power of the middle-class, a catalyst for social and political upheaval. At the occasion, Munawar Mughal informed the Senator about problems faced by the business community.
He said political stability was a pre-requisite for economic growth and development of the country. The FPCCI VP said good governance was imperative for sustaining a sound political, social and economic system in the country for which different political parties must unite on the key national issues.
The mainstream political parties must demonstrate responsibility, tolerance and uphold the democratic values to bring masses out of uncertainty, he said. All the courts and judges will remain in danger in absence of proper security arrangements and shifting of courts to a secured compound, he observed.
