First polio case detected in SWA

PESHAWAR

First poliovirus case was surfaced in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Saturday.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) said that a six-month-old girl, hailing from Tehsil Bairmal, was found affected with poliovirus.
With this case the number of polio cases since January 1 has reached 27, of which 24 belong to FATA and three to Peshawar.
Most of the polio cases have been detected in FATA where children were deprived of anti-polio vaccination due to terrorism and suspicion about the vaccine.
Surge in poliovirus in FATA has increased the worries of health authorities which were struggling to clear the country of the virus.
