Security failure

The attack in Islamabad’s F-8 Markaz on Monday morning that killed 11 people so soon after the Taliban proclamation of no more fighting becomes a major question mark for all the stakeholders. Is the government really so naïve to take the terrorists seriously considering their previous track record? But at least the new government will learn from its own mistakes, which gives them a good excuse.

But what about the security forces and the intelligence agencies that are supposed to be working day and night for the safety of people?  Despite the fact that the army has been fighting this asymmetrical war for well over a decade it has still not learnt to decode intelligence messages or thwart any untoward incidents. Is it because the officials are too busy protecting their own skin rather than the peoples? All the protection machinery, aid and funds given to the army is being used to build modern, hi-tech offices laced with the latest technology and plush surroundings that provides a feel of progress and upgradation.

On one hand one hears higher officials preaching the need to understand the stance of the soldiers fighting on borders while on the other hand precious money is thrown away to build new corporate style working environment. What good is a security apparatus that is only aiming to secure itself? To make itself secure and ensure its own existence?

In this backdrop it’s no surprise that innocent people are being killed in cold blood, the poor and powerless soldiers are being slaughtered while the rest sit in their head quarters in absolute comfort and watch others bleed silently?
