Google is celebrating the International Women’s day with an interactive doodle on its home page that will be displayed starting March 7 till March 9.
Today’s doodle is Google’s eighth doodle on International Women’s Day. The company first created a doodle on the occasion in 2005. And then consecutively since 2009, the search giant marks the occasion with a doodle.
The doodle features several instances of the Venus symbol, used to denote the female gender, in colours used in the Google logo along with the company’s actual logo. The second ‘O’ of the Google logo has also been replaced by a larger Venus symbol that also features a Play button. Clicking on the play button starts an embedded YouTube video that includes women from all over the world wishing ‘Happy International’s Women’s day’ in their native languages.
The video features some prominent personalities including Malala Yousafzai, Mary Kom and Asha Bhonsle.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year to mark women’s achievements and to appreciate their contribution to the world. Although the earliest observance of the day go back to 1908, it was widely observed after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to recognize March 8 as the ‘Day for women’s rights and world peace.’
It is nice how Google celebrates international women's day. I like the video!!
