Wattoo wants govt to carry on with Pak-Iran pipeline project

Without caving in to international pressure, the government must go ahead with the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project to end the energy crisis in the country, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said.

While commenting on the recent statement of the Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz about the Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project, Wattoo urged the government Wednesday to pursue the building of the pipeline project. He said it was the landmark project that was vigorously pursued by the former president Asif Ali Zardari who undertook a number of visits to the brotherly country Iran to translate the visionary project into reality.

He maintained that the project offered the quickest solution of energy problems of the country at competitive rates because the flow of gas in the pipeline could have been enough to produce more than 2,000 Mega Watts of electricity by power plants that will help in providing uninterrupted supply of energy to the industrial sector as well.
