Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on Wednesday said the court would not allow the government to violate constitution by meting out discriminatory treatment to special persons.
He also said, “Special persons enjoy rights under the constitution of Pakistan. Federal and provincial governments should tell what actions are being taken by them with reference to special persons. They are facing countless difficulties in the society which should be addressed.”
He said this while presiding over a three-member bench during the course of hearing of a petition against allocation of small budget and lack of facilities for special persons. The petition was filed by Raheel Kamran.
The petitioner told the court only Rs 100 per day budget has been allocated for special persons and it was difficult to meet daily expenses. Special persons form 2.5 percent of the country’s total population but discriminatory treatment is being meted out to them. No facilities are provided to them to visit building, plazas and other sites which is violation of human rights. Therefore, federal and provincial governments should be issued directives in this respect, he requested.
While issuing notices to AG and all the four advocate generals, the court sought reply from them by the second week of April.
