ISLAMABAD-
Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani on Tuesday ordered installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the premises of all courts in the country, a private news channel reported.
CJ Jillani was heading the hearing of the suo motu case of Monday’s court attack in Islamabad that left 11 people dead, including a judge and injured 29 others.
The court demanded the compensation for the families of the victims in the attack should be announced until Tuesday evening by the government.
The Interior Secretary Dr. Shahid submitted the initial report of the Islamabad court attack in today’s hearing.
The court directed him to resubmit a detailed version of the report on Monday.
The CJ enquired from the secretary about how many policemen were deployed on duty in the court that was targeted by attackers on Monday.
Interior Secretary replied that 47 policemen were on duty at the time of the incident.
The court further enquired that how many of the deployed men were armed. Over this, Interior secretary told the court he was not aware of the number.
However, he added, that two policemen did use their weapons in retaliation during the attack.
The CJ remarked that not even one of the attackers was caught or injured in the retaliatory fire and asked the interior secretary to submit a report on the bullets fired by security forces in the next hearing.
The court ordered chief commissioner Islamabad, witnesses and representatives of the district bar to record their statements until the next hearing of the case on March 10.
The responsibility for Monday’s attack was claimed by a group ‘Ahrarul Hind’ which is a lesser-known splinter group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The group has reportedly parted ways with TTP over the issue of peace dialogue with Pakistani government.
