  • Mufti Muneeb suggests formation of autonomous board to legalise functioning of seminaries

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Yousaf Tuesday said formal education should be inducted in the syllabus of seminaries to make it according to the modern day requirements.

All the seminaries should be brought under an integrated system, the minister said in a meeting with the representatives of Wafaqul Madaris.

He said the seminaries should be affiliated with universities for issuance of degrees. He appreciated the clerics for their role in creating interfaith harmony in the country.

The representatives of Wifaqul Madaris included Mufti Muneebur Rehman, Qazi Abdul Rashid, Maulana Yaseen Zafar, Maulana Abdul Malick, Qazi Niaz Hussain Naqvi and Maulana Abdul Jaleel. Officials of the Ministry of Religions Affairs and Interfaith Harmony were also present in the meeting.

Mufti Muneeb suggested that an autonomous board and university should be established to legalize functioning of madrassas.

The clerics apprised the minister that about 17,500 seminaries were functioning under the Wifaq Ul Madaris across the country, where about two million students were getting education.

They suggested that the process for the registration of seminaries should be made easy. They also called for setting up a committee to monitor the registration of seminaries. They said the elements involved in anti peace activities should be dealt with an iron hand.
