Syed Khurshid Shah says terror attacks have left big question mark over Islamabad’s security
Opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Shah has regretted that foreign missions in the capital were deliberating on shifting to other places as the federal capital was not safe.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Shah said that the Islamabad attack had put a question mark on the capital’s security, adding that security situation in Islamabad had not been addressed appropriately.
“When will the government pay attention to Islamabad’s security? We cannot say this is a failure of the government. Despite political opposition we have to stand united and make new planning for Islamabad security,” he said.
He said the Opposition was neither demanding the resignation of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar nor it was engaging in point-scoring, but underscored that the public should be granted protection.
He said he could not believe that Taliban were not behind the attack. If they were not involved they would have condemned the incident, he added.
Commenting on the recent firing incident in the courts, he said assailants continued firing in the F-8 courts for 40 minutes after reciting the ‘kalma’.
He advised the government to take concrete measures, saying that Opposition would support the government in its efforts against terrorism.
