Sanctuaries of militants behind Jamrud attack destroyed in operation, five suspects slain

KHYBER AGENCY-

Pakistan’s military forces launched an extensive assault on Sunday morning at the militant hideouts in different parts of Bara of Khyber Agency, a private news channel reported.

The security forces attacks come only a day after the Taliban declared a one-month ceasefire to pursue stalled peace talks with the government.

“The government is not going to tolerate any act of terror and any act will be replied to,” said a Pakistani security official who asked not to be identified.

The attacks were a retaliation of Saturday’s bombing and gun fire attack on Khasadar police force on security duty of polio workers in Jamrud. At least 12 Khasadar men and one child were killed in the attack.

Security sources confirmed that gunship helicopter pounded the headquarters of Mullah Tamanche who was involved in the Jamrud attack.

Tamanche’s hideout was completely destroyed while at least five suspected militants were killed, added the sources.

Militant havens in Kalanga and surrounding areas were also targeted by the gunship helicopters.

Locals were quoted saying the shelling continued for hours.
