13 Afghans killed while preparing car bomb

LOGAR

At least 13 people, including women and children, have been killed in an explosion as Taliban fighters prepared a car bomb in southern Afghanistan, officials said
A spokesman for the governor of Logar Province, Dind Mohammad Darwesh, said that it was probably a case of the fighters being killed by their own weapon.
He said it appeared the car was being prepared for an attack but that investigations are ongoing.
The explosives detonated prematurely as they were being placed in a car in a house in Puli Alam, the capital of Logar province, deputy provincial police chief Abdul Wali Toofan told the AFP news agency.
Darwesh said that those killed in the blast included nine fighters, plus two women and two children who were nearby, adding that he had no further details.
The area is a Taliban stronghold, and dangerous for journalists to independently verify claims.
