MOST-FAMILIAR OPPONENTS MEET AFTER SEVEN MONTHS

After beating Bangladesh in the first match, India take on Sri Lanka in their second match of 12th Asia Cup at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah, Dhaka on Friday (February 28). This day night/night match will start at 13.00 hours (PST).

This encounter will be the 144th between the two teams in one day international cricket and 19th in Asia Cup. No two teams have played each other this often. Pakistan-Sri Lanka is second at 138, and Australia-West Indies third at 135.

India have a good record against Sri Lanka in previous one day international matches played between the two teams. They have won 78 and lost 53 in 143 previous encounters between the two sides.

Twelve matches did not produce a result which include a tied match.

India also have a good record against Sri Lanka on ‘neutral venues’. They have won 26, lost 15, abandoned two and tied one in 44 matches played against India on ‘neutral’ grounds. The men in blue have won three and lost four in seven matches played in Bangladesh.

The record in Asia Cup is even. Both teams have won nine matches each in 18 played in the Asia Cup sofar.
