Senate chairman seeks report on doctors’ contract extension in a week
Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari on Friday referred a Calling Attention Notice regarding non-extension/renewal of contracts of doctors and allied staff of Federal GeneralHospital and Federal Medical and DentalCollege to the standing committee and sought report within a week.
Moving the Calling Attention Notice, Senator Saeeda Iqbal said that the people would suffer a lot as only 18 employees in Federal GeneralHospital and 32 employees of the medical college are regular. She said that the government was not renewing contract of the employees after the Cabinet Secretariat notification of February 6.
She said that future of 200 students enrolled in the college would also be at stake if the contract of the employees are not renewed and extended.
State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmed apprised the House that the issue has already been discussed in the Senate Standing Committee and it would be sorted out soon.
The chairman referred the matter to the concerned committee and directed to report to the House in a week.
