A report on verification of voters’ thumb impression revealed that over 10,000 fake votes were cast in the Sindh Assembly’s constituency PS-32, Khairpur-IV, during 2013 general elections.

The seat was won by Pakistan Peoples Party’s Manzoor Wasan. Claiming rigging in the election, the runner up, Mir Shah Nawaz Khan Talpur of the Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) had challenged the results in an election tribunal.

The tribunal sent 61,307 votes to National Database and Registration Authority for the verification of voters’ thumb impression. The NADRA could verify only 28,295 votes, less than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the constituency. The report said 10,239 votes were fake while 22,525 votes could not be unverified due to the ECP-recommended magnetic ink. NADRA has dispatched its final report to the tribunal, the sources said
