30 shops gutted in furniture market

Fire gutted 30 shops and damaged over a dozen others in a furniture market of the metropolis on Thursday.

Police said that fire caused due to unknown reasons erupted in furniture market in Ghareebabad Furniture Market near Liaquatabad area of Karachi. The fire spread rapidly due to wooden and plastic furniture and engulfed a four-storey commercial plaza. Fire tenders and rescue personnel reached the scene of fire and brought the blaze under control after hectic efforts of five hours.

Meantime, 30 furniture shops were gutted completely besides 15 others were partially damaged inflecting losses of millions of rupees. A case has been registered and police also started investigation to find out the source of initiating of fire. The affected furniture traders demanded of the provincial government to conduct investigation into the incident and to pay compensation for the losses.
