Sami contacts TTP shura, conveys committee’s requests

PESHAWAR

Samiul Haq, coordinator of the Taliban’s committee, contacted the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) shura on Wednesday to convey requests on behalf of the committee.
According to reports, Sami met the TTP shura and conveyed requests.
Meanwhile, another member of the committee, Yousuf Shah said that the Taliban had hinted at continuing the negotiations and hoped that they would respond positively to the requests. He also said the people would be apprised of the TTP’s decision.
Shah added that in order to ensure successful peace talks, it was imperative that the government and the TTP should enter a ceasefire.
Earlier on Tuesday, the TTP had rejected the government’s call for an unconditional ceasefire. “If this is what we have to do, we would have done it 10 years ago,” TTP’s spokesman Shahidullah Shahid had said.
“It is the government which has waged a war against us and it is for the government to end it now. Let the government hold fire and we shall follow suit,” he had said.
