Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that there was no ambiguity in the National Security Policy.
Responding to the concerns expressed by Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah, he said that he would seek opinion of leaders of parliamentary parties and assured that the government would welcome any suggestion given by the opposition.
He said the government’s approach was well thought out but the policy was not the final word and any good suggestion in this regard would be welcomed. He invited all the parties to give their input to improve it.
Moreover, Nawaz assured the opposition that all matters would be jointly resolved.
Praising Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar for preparing the comprehensive policy, the prime minister said this was not a final document and recommendations from the opposition and government benches could be incorporated in it. He said it was not the policy of any political party but of the state and everybody should contribute to further improve it.
Nawaz said the solution of the country’s all problems lies in democracy. He also said that the atmosphere in the House was much better than from 20-25 years ago.
The PM praised the comments of Shah and said, “All of us have rendered sacrifices for democracy and the atmosphere in the House is altogether different from the nineties.”
He clarified that there was no confusion in the government policy against extremism and if anybody thinks it needs more clarity, they would welcome the suggestions and recommendations. He said the process has been clear and transparent and the media and the nation were occasionally briefed about progress on the dialogue between the committees.
“We have been making the dimension of dialogue clear. We had briefed the parliamentary leaders and if there would be a need, we shall again do it.”
“We are ready for heart-to-heart discussions, seek opinions and bring about improvement,” he said.
“It is a state policy. It is not the policy of the government or any specific political party and everybody should contribute to it.”
The PM said it was beauty of democracy that we speak on national issues with clarity of thought and present constructive proposals.
“We have learnt a lot from follies of our past and now it is time to mend the follies. Let us talk with responsibility and commitment.”
“What I am seeing here today encourages me that democracy has bright future in the country and we will ably steer country out of problems, it is facing,” he added.
