Consulate team visits Makkah jail

JEDDAH

A consulate team, including Aftab Ahmad Khokhar, consul general, Tehseemul Haq Haqqi, vice consul and officials of the Welfare Wing visited Makkah Jail on Wednesday.
The purpose of the visit was to continue to maintain contact with Pakistani prisoners, seek their wellbeing, express moral support to them and extend assistance to them.
Each prisoner praised the visit as it provided them an opportunity to express their feelings. The visit also injected hope as they were told that the government is concerned about their wellbeing and all efforts would be made for their early release.
The team also met the jail authorities and requested them to look after Pakistani prisoners. The prison head assured the consul general that keeping in view the importance of the relations and strength of Pakistan-Saudi relations, he would do his best to look after the Pakistani prisoners within the rules and regulations. The jail authorities also promised to process the cases of prisoners whose terms have expired or about to expire so that they could return to their homes without any further delay.
The consulate team’s visit was a part of the Government’s directions to maintain contacts with Pakistani prisoners. The Consulate has always endeavoured to implement the Government policy and instructions with regard to overseas Pakistanis detained in Saudi jails.
The team visited General Jail, Makkah on February 13 and the next visit will be to Madina Jail on March 2.
