Only rule of law can ensure sustainable and long term peace and stability in the country, said President Mamnoon Hussain while addressing the 15th annual award ceremony of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Tuesday.
The president said enforcement of law is always seen as a strict and rigid practice; however‚ the NHMP has proven it to be the soft face of the government in implementing law without any discrimination.
Referring to the importance of well connected‚ safe and secure road network for socio economic uplift of the people‚ he said the government has set in motion its vision of expanding national and international trade corridors to link the existing and new markets.
Appreciating the efforts of NHMP regarding greater safety and security on the roads‚ the president said the department has emerged as one of the model institutions of the country and become an asset and pride for the nation.
Hussain expressed the confidence that the force will continue to perform with even greater zeal to raise the quality of its service. He assured that problems faced by the police in terms of shortage of manpower and equipment will be redressed.
Speaking on the occasion Minister of State Sheikh Waqas said corruption free national highway and motorway police is a role model for all the public sector institutions.
