Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) at a peace conference on Tuesday asked all the militant groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to immediately stop suicide attacks and bomb blasts and demanded the prime minister to play his due role for the success of the dialogue process with the TTP.
The conference, which was chaired by the chairman of the PUC Allama Tahir Ashrafi, and attended by more than 28 religious and political parties as well as representatives of the minority communities, in a joint statement also demanded of the government to use diplomatic means to bring back the dead bodies of the 23 FC personnel who were martyred by the TTP inside Afghanistan.
The statement said, “For the sake of God, the TTP and the government should declare a ceasefire and ensure peace”.
It asked the government to make arrangements for boarding and lodging of the people migrating from Waziristan and other tribal areas.
Addressing the conference, the speakers said that people from all walks of life and religions played their part in the creation of Pakistan and they too should come forward to bring peace in the country.
The joint statement condemned the threats given to non-Muslims staying in Chitral and expressed deep sense of sorrow over the martyrdom of the 23 FC personnel. It demanded that the government should bring back all those killed in Afghanistan since 2010.
