High Court declares PTI’s blockade on NATO supply routes ‘illegal’

PESHAWAR-

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has declared the blockade at the NATO trucks supply route to Afghanistan by workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as illegal, a private news channel reported on Tuesday.

The court ruled that the government should preserve the right of freedom of movement in this regard.

A trader Haji Lal Muhammad had filed a petition at the HC, challenging the blocking of the route by PTI workers.
Muhammad is an exporter of rice, among other items, to Afghanistan and has been affected by the suspension of the supply lines due to the PTI protests that started on November 23 last year.

PTI Chief Imran Khan, who has always been vocal on the issue of drone strikes in the tribal belt, urged the government to halt the NATO trucks supply line in protest of the strike that killed six people on November 21.

On receiving no response from the federal authorities, PTI-which shares a coalition government in Khyber Paktunkhwa- set up check points on the route to Afghanistan to prevent movement of trucks transferring NATO supply across the border.
